This Is The Way to do Taxes

Before I was an IT Geek, I was in Accounting. Dare I say I was an Accounting Geek? I guess I must admit that because I'm one of those freaks of nature that actually understood the concept of debits and credits the very first time it was described to me. Because I'm in tune with numbers, I've always done my own taxes. They were never that hard, especially since I've never had enough deductions to itemize. However, I now have soooooo much to deduct since I'm paying on a mortgage for the first time in my life. I debated figuring it all out on my own (return with standard deduction versus itemized) but I decided it was worth the $29.99 to buy some software to do all of the work for me. (Remember, I am now an IT Geek, not an Accounting Geek.) I bought TaxCut on Sugar Daddy's recommendation. Man, was it easy! Sobriety wasn't even needed...I happily drank several glasses of wine while going through the program. It's a breeze when all you have to do is type in

Carol's Player Done Good

Sting goalie, Rob Blasdell, won Player of the Week. You can read about it here . Not only did he win Defensive Player but he also won Overall Player. The Sting are in second place right now. I can't wait until next Friday for our next game.

I'm Officially Smart - The Test Said So!

Shannon sent me this test . I ended up with 26 right, 44.5% smarter than the average bear.

Interesting...

My Opinion Will Finally Count!

I got a call the other day asking my opinion on something...turns out it was the Gallup Poll folks. They asked me what I thought about a possible impending terrorist attack and about the war in Iraq. Then, they asked me to join the Gallup Poll Panel. I got the literature today to sign up. There's an initial survey to fill out then I'm in. Here are some quotes from the stuff I got: Leaders in government, business, and media will listen to your opinion. Your thoughts and ideas will help shape the outcomes of political races, nationwide economic issues, and other vital situations. Sweet! So, if you start noticing poll results leaning to the left a little more than they used to...well, that's just me voicing my opinion.

This Cracks Me Up

Check out this commercial. I can totally relate - if anything U of A related came up in a charades game, you could remove my fingernails before I would say it.

Yeah, Right

We're getting ready to film our Employee of the Year presentation. This year, I've been lucky to have someone else do the majority of the writing and he's also directing, filming and editing. That's a boatload of work that I don't have to do so life is good for me. I am going to be a major actor in the film, though. I get to play a dictatorial boss. Hmm, typecasting? Anywhooo, the director just saw The Devil Wears Prada and told me I needed to watch it then act just like Meryl Streep. Act like Meryl Streep !?!? Hellooooo! She's like one of the most acclaimed and respected actors of our era! If I could act 10% as well as Streep, I wouldn't be an IT Manager, I'd be working in the movies.

Book Review - A Fistful of Charms

A Fistful of Charms is the latest in Kim Harrison's series about witch/investigator, Rachel Morgan. While it had an interesting plot involving a relic that could bind werewolves into one group and destroy the delicate balance of the supernatural groups (weres, vamps, etc.), Harrison is starting to lean towards what I call "Anita Blake syndrome." Those who have read Laurell Hamilton's series will know what I mean. It seemed like everyone (vamp, were, man, woman, human, living, living dead...) wants to have sex with Rachel. And, she's attracted to them but fights it because it's just "wrong". Hmm, now that I think about it, the only thing that was out was the gay stuff. She doesn't seem to have a problem with sleeping with her vampire boyfriend...though he's not allowed to bite her so, never mind, I'm back to my original complaint. Rachel is hung up on stuff and continually offends others with her hangups while I'm sitting back and thi

I Went to Lacrosse and a Hockey Game Broke Out!

Friday night's Arizona Sting game was awesome! My guy Dan Dawson started the action with two goals (and ended up with 5 assists on top of that). There's no doubt that he's a scoring stud. Even the merchandise for sale backs it up. They had these pink tees that said "I 'heart' Daws" for sale and I sooooo wanted one. However, they were only available in Junior sizes. Junior sizes? That might fit one of my thighs...on a skinny day. I checked online and I can get a replica jersey with his name and number on it for $154. I've decided to save all of my poker winnings until I have enough to get one. Hopefully, I can clear that much in my next few tourneys (though I probably just jinxed myself by even thinking that I'll win). Carol's picked our goalie, Bob Blasdell, to be her player. He was on fire! So much so that he tied a National Lacrosse League record for fewest goals allowed in a game. He shut out Portland in the first half and allowed only 4 goa

Jack's Back...and I'm Caught Up!

24 started this week...2 hours on Sunday and 2 hours on Monday. Sunday night, I was crashed out around 8 PM, plumb worn out from the Marathon. (Imagine how tired I would have been if I'd actually run it!). Monday night was dinner with the family and I didn't get home until almost midnight. Tuesday night, Mike Finnegan and I went out for dinner and brews. I didn't get home until almost 1 AM. I had no chance to watch 24 until last night and it was driving me crazy. I've been avoiding anything that could give away the plot. Not looking at Yahoo headlines, careful scanning of the newspaper, avoiding all 24 talk. I wasn't entirely successful. First, there was Crime Dog's blog . I read something about Jack shooting his best friend, shrieked like a little girl ( Eeeek !) and slammed shut my laptop. So, no blog hits for CD from me for the last few days. Tuesday, Mike and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings and they had lots of TVs on with a bunch of them tuned to American Id

I'm Not Dead Yet!

I haven't left the planet - it's just that, in true Kathy fashion, I've scheduled myself nearly to death lately. Here's my schedule from last Friday forward... Friday - Work, work, work then an Arizona Sting game. The Sting are a professional lacrosse team that play at Glendale Arena...er, I mean Jobing.com Arena. Moose and Carol had gone to a couple of games, talked it up a bit and this year 7 of us bought season tickets. It was only $81 for 10 games so I figured if I missed a game here or there, it would be no biggie. It was fun! I had no idea about rules except that I figured they'd be the same as hockey. That was only partially true. There's no icing but there is high sticking. There's an illegal stick penalty but also a shot clock. The Sting came up short but, pending checking out their pictures, I did pick a favorite player. Dan Dawson appears to be the team scoring stud so he's my guy for the moment. Saturday - Cleaning day. I had so many layers

Flashback

I'm hanging at home with my iPod randomly playing my "favorites". Jessie's Girl just came on. It instantly transported me to Sloppy Joe's in Key West. I can hear The Cocktones and feel like my Meeting Of The Minds homies are all around me. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my happy place for a while...

Britney's First Marriage Lasted Longer...

I was really looking forward to New Year's Eve. Not only to play my role of the "Paris Hilton of NASCAR" but also to spend time with my new husband, Cameron. The rest of the guests were ready to have fun, too. A lot of them dressed up for their roles but I think I was the only one attempting an accent. It was a truly bad Southern accent but at least I tried. I must say that my Cameron looked fine! He was wearing a nice suit and tie ensemble (I was wearing quite the trampy low cut top but a demurely long skirt - nice combo) and greeted me with a hug and smooch on the cheek when I got there. It didn't take us long to fall into our roles. He was all, "I love you, Snookums" and I was all, "I don't know how I'd live without you, Sugar Buns." There was also lots of hugging and snuggling. What fun! However, my Cameron was also hugging and smooching on a lot of other women at the party. I would turn around for a second and he would be off trying hi

Playing With The Boys

Mary O and I played with Pirate Rick's poker gang on Friday night. It was a No Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournament and most of the guys seemed to know each other pretty well. The buy-in was $50 with a rebuy option of $25. Apparently, there's a history of girls always winning when they play with this group (attributed to beginner's luck) so some of the boys didn't seem all that excited to see us there. As a matter of fact, most of them gravitated to Pirate Rick's table and were staying away from the second table that included me and Mary until Toby showed up and announced that we were fun to play with. He should think it's fun to play with me - he took me out in the Mom O'Malley Tournament. Good thing I don't hold a grudge. It's interesting playing with a group of guys. I'm sure I'm stereotyping a bit but, it seems like the older guys are much cooler with playing with women. They're more encouraging and don't get bent when you beat the
