Alexa, play the Bee Gees

It took me two work charity golf tournaments to succeed but I won an Amazon Echo and a Dot on Friday. Sweet!

Sweet, sweet victory!

While I couldn't justify flat out buying them, I could justify buying raffle tickets for the chance to win them. It's all for the kids, after all.

For those that know me well, it's probably surprising that I didn't win these last year. Frankly, I should have but here's what happened. I had put all my raffle tickets into the bowl for the Echo and Dot. While there was a lull in the action between morning and afternoon golf, apparently the raffle people were bored and decided to do some "practice" draws. Draw one:  Kathy. "What a surprise. Not." Draw two:  Kathy. "Again?" I don't know how many more they may have done but when it came time for the final draw it went like this:

"The winner of the Echo and Dot is....Tina!"

Ripoff.

I was very clear this year. "No practice shenanigans!" I also said something along the lines of "I better win this year or it's not going to be pretty." (I actually said the latter more than once, TBH.)

My volunteer job at the tournament is to direct everyone to the raffle, silent auction, bar (my addition to the points of interest) and the lunch. To my credit, I highly encouraged additional purchases of raffle tickets. To my credit as a competitor, I also encouraged placement of said raffle tickets in the bowls for the Apple watch and golf foursome. Hey, those were great prizes!

I was standing outside in the lunch line with my friend Jimmy when they started drawing prize winners. My ears perked up when they mentioned the Echo and Dot and fully expected to hear my name announced. Jimmy was disgusted when my foresight proved true. "You win everything!" Music to my ears.

I collected my prizes then sat down with Jimmy and a few colleagues to eat. Our Controller came over and said that his first thought was that they were pranking me then his second thought was to wonder how I rigged it. (He was witness to one of my many declarations that I "better" win."

I looked him in the eye and said, "I bought $40 worth of tickets. It's all math."

And, it is. Just like when I win 50/50s, I buy a lot of tickets to increase my odds of winning. I'm pretty sure I had at least half of the tickets in the bowl when they drew.

First thing Saturday morning, I set them up. My first command after testing is probably not a surprise.

(total newb video holding the camera the wrong way)

Of course, I had an interested party in the setup process.

More hindrance than assistance.
Oh, my second command?

"Alexa, play Brett Eldredge."

Still. So. Dreamy.
