Be Proud Of Your Allegiance!


Hmmm, can you tell who my favorite driver is?

We have a new guy at work and Sugar Daddy was talking to him about sports (those who know Sugar Daddy know he was just being polite as he is soooo non-sportsy) and the guy says he likes NASCAR. Sugar Daddy's response was, "No WAY! I hate NASCAR but Kathy loves it." So, the guy comes up to me and says he's a NASCAR fan and my response was, "No WAY! Did Sugar Daddy (though I used his actual name) put you up to that?

Once I believed him, I asked, "Are you a Junior fan?" Now, I admit I said it in a way to lead him to believe that I was not but he said "Not really, I was a big Dale Sr. fan and I really like Randy LaJoie." We chatted a bit about this weekend's race and my driver then went back to work.

I saw his truck in the parking lot later on and he has three decals on his window: a 3, a 57 and an 8. His license plate is a version of NASCAR and the number 8. Dude! Clearly you're a Junior fan and I was going to find out eventually so why downplay it? I'm guessing Sugar Daddy told him that he's referred to as "Effing" Junior in our house and that may have scared him a little.

I suppose he was trying to not make waves the first day, but come on! You have to be proud of whom you support. I could be in the middle of a group of Bears fans and I would still proudly state my allegiance to the Pack. (Actually, I have been in the middle of a group of Bears fans and stated my allegiance to the Pack...more than once.) You gotta stick up for your guy(s)! I'm OK with someone supporting someone other than my driver. Heck, I even dated a Kurt Bush fan...not that I'll make that mistake again. Some beliefs just don't mix. But I'll respect you more if you don't try to hide whom you're rooting for.

Unless, you're a visting fan at a Raiders game. Then, I'll applaud your discretion because those people are just plain crazy!

Most of 2020 sucked. But, there were some good moments that made memories to cling to. I'm going to review some of those moments from each month. I moved into my house in May of 2019 and it was already hot out so I used the Arizona summer as an excuse not to do anything to my patio or yard. I don't recall what excuse I used to justify ignoring the both in the fall and winter. Let's go with complete laziness. It's entirely plausible. However, I had to get on the stick and pretty it up because I had a bunch of company scheduled for the spring. The first thing I did was get some inexpensive chairs from Target for my beat up table. Most of 2020 sucked. But, there were some good moments that made memories to cling to. I'm going to review some of those moments from each month. (Disclaimer - my memory isn't what it used to be so this is my story and I'm sticking to it regardless of reality.) The home improvements continued in March. More complaining from Steven continued as well. Bzzzz. Bzzzz. Party lights on the back patio. Solar lights on the driveway and front patio. Hanging the lights was easy. The front lights were more challenging. Apparently, my front yard is a shallow layer of gravel on top of packed dirt impersonating concrete. Steven ended up digging holes with a screwdriver then shoving the bases of the lights in while I followed behind and attached the actual light part. It looks great except that I think all of the batteries (yep, solar lights with batteries) have worn out now so I need to replace them. It sure made my house easier to find at night. Most of 2020 sucked. But, there were some good moments that made memories to cling to. I'm going to review some of those moments from each month. (Disclaimer - my memory isn't what it used to be so this is my story and I'm sticking to it regardless of reality.) My birthday is in May. I don't make a big deal out of it because I don't want to do the math. Seriously. It's just not possible that I'm this old. Celebrating in a quarantine is right up my alley. However, my friends and family thought differently. Birthday cards from around the country. My friend Jim started a secret (to me) Facebook event and asked mutual friends to mail me a card. Funny side story, he put the wrong ZIP for my address. I imagine the post office staff in 85033 enjoyed processing those forwards a lot.
