Book Review - The Help
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'm embarrassed to admit this but, while I knew people were raving about this book, I thought it was yet another of those tales about rich people in NYC (or LA) where they're mean to their staff. OK, way wrong on that one.
It's actually the story of Black maids in the early 60s in Jacksonville, MS. Not just the maids but also the women who employ them. It's beautifully told in the voices of two maids and a recent college grad who finds she no longer fits in with her friends and their views on segregation.
I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to discuss it at book club this week.
