The Old Folks' Anniversary
Today is my parents' 43rd Anniversary. Man, they're old.
Steven and I took them to dinner at The Olive Garden to celebrate. How that works is that Steven drives and I pick up the check. He's got a good thing going, that kid. It was the typical Pfister family outing with Steven and I fighting over the black olives, stealing food from each other's plates and keeping the table entertained with our banter. We really should take that show on the road sometime.
Fortunately, their electricity has been on since early this afternoon so they don't have to worry about that anymore. The electrician and the Salt River Project people were really great in making sure that everything was good. It's nice to hear good stories about customer service.
Now, Shorty can obsess about getting the hole in their wall fixed. He'd tried to get the police report from the City of Scottsdale but the officer hadn't filed it yet. His homeowner's insurance people told him he would have to pay the $1,000 deductible. I told him that was BS since the kid had insurance. But, since he couldn't get the report with the insurance info on it, he's been worrying.
Earlier this evening, the Mother of the kid who hit the house gave Shorty all of the insurance info that he can now pass on to his people. Hopefully, that makes him feel better and they can get going on the repairs.
On our way home from dinner, Steven detoured us through my parents' neighborhood. It got the worst of the storm the other night and it was incredible to see how many old and large trees were completely uprooted or snapped off. A few roofs looked bad, too. The worst was a guy who had a classic truck parked in front of his house and an absolutely huge tree fell on it. I think it's actually bent in the middle. What a bummer.
It certainly made me appreciate that the worse thing I got is a leaky skylight that should be resealed tomorrow.
