Book Review - Bonk
Bonk by Mary Roach
rating: 4 of 5 stars
Bonk is an absolutely fascinating book on the physiology sex (mostly) and the people who study it. Roach has a wonderful writing style. She makes the science simple and you actually feel like you've met the people she interviewed. I especially loved her footnotes that provided trivia related anecdotes and humorous comments.
Just some of the subjects and people covered: Kinsey, Masters and Johnson, penile implants, sex toys, turning on and inseminating pigs, monkey sex, why Viagra doesn't work for women, affects of intimacy on the sexual experience. And, a lot on what happens to the male and female body during arousal and orgasm.
A word of warning to potential male readers. The description of the implant surgery (think of peeling a banana where the banana skin is, well, the guy's skin) will make you cringe if not make you nauseous and have to repeatedly check on your buddy.
